We have developed a couple of initiatives to build up soft skills
for these underprivileged students.
English has been recognised as one of the main communication languages in the world, meanwhile, under the trend of globalization, English ability has become one of the important competence for children to survive in the workplace. South Saigon English Camp has been initiated with the hope to provide a chance for poor students in Ho Chi Minh City to meet this need gap. Through the partnership with Saigon South International School (SSIS), volunteer teachers design curriculums and training materials in six subjects included English, Hello World, Science, Art, Music and Sports according to different English levels. This profoundly enhances learning effectiveness and interest. Since 2015, LSTF together with SSIS has organised five English camps with the participation of more than 194 volunteers and 738 students from junior high school.
Volunteering Social Services
Volunteering social services has been organized with the hope that, through volunteer activities, students are encouraged to learn the importance of taking care of people and society, especially for vulnerable people. Our volunteering work is to assist LSTF scholarship recipients to participate in different social activities, assisting basic care for the elderly, sensitizing the good hygiene practices, for instance. In 2014, 61 university students organized a couple of volunteering activities by themselves and promoted environmental hygiene, prevent dengue fever, cholera and other activities related to awareness-raising in the Centers for Children with Disabilities (Trung Tâm nuôi dạy trẻ khuyết tật và chăm sóc người gia neo đơn) and Ho Chi Minh City's Qinyu County (Anxi Dongshe Cultural Center) (Trung tâm Văn Hóa Xã An Thới Đông).
