Background & Objective
In order to assist poor households in having secured places to live, since 2008 the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam has issued a couple of Decisions (such as Decision No. 33/2015/QD-TTg on August 10, 2015). Along with this policy implementation, poor households are more likely to pursue their career development without anxiety and then escape from poverty, which contributes to achieving the national goal-poverty reduction.
Under this policy background, our Fund also responded to the fund-raising activity initiated by Mr. Nguyen Viet Thanh, the former Lieutenant General of the Ministry of Public Security and hopes that through our participation and contribution, more resources can be aggregated from communities and generous people, thereby supporting poor households in improving their living standard.
Below is the operations process of supporting Gratitude House construction.
In February 2019, the People's Committee at Thanh Binh Commune in Tien Giang Province and Mr. Nguyen Viet Thanh, the former Lieutenant General of the Ministry of Public Security together have sought for our support to do Gratitude House construction for a number of disadvantaged households. After conducting need assessment and field visits, together with the support from local authorities, our Fund agreed to support 12 households to build their houses and each household is granted VND 50 million to cover construction cost. This support is not only in responding to the national policy, but that our Fund fulfills our commitment of taking care of the poor and disadvantaged families in the society.
After several communications among stakeholders as well as collaborative works between local authorities, communities and LSTF, these 12 Gratitude Houses have been completed on August 30, 2019. On the same day, the handover ceremony was held at the Cultural House of Thanh Binh Commune. The former Lieutenant General- Mr Nguyen Viet Thanh expressed that:
‘’ I was very happy and appreciated the good will from Lawrence S. Ting Foundation and Phu My Hung Development Co., Ltd. and then join together with local government to build 12 houses for poor households, creating a secured place to live. In particular, without the guidance and considerations given from LSTF, we couldn’t make a big success and complete the construction on time.’’
